About The Artist
b. Stillwater, Minnesota
Began drawing at the age of three.
Took art classes all through school. Won a full scholarship to attend
Arizona State University. Graduated in 1995 with a BFA.
I consider myself a realist who occasionally is swept away by
impressionistic and gestural styles. I love to tell stories in my
work, recreating a memory of a scene or creating an ideal visual
situation. I have interest in all subject matter from figurative
to the abstract, but my illustrative tendencies have led me to
portraiture time and time again.
I found a returning interest in drawing and painting animals when my
dog, Gromit, became paralyzed after rupturing a disc in a freak
jumping accident. The experience taught me patience that I never
before knew. Her year long recovery has helped me realize that these
sweet faces often need more than they ever ask for. I believe that
our companions are as important as people as they are worthy of more
trust than most humans we encounter. I hope more people realize this
and strive to be as honest with others as our pets are with us.
