Studio “Live” Photography

This is a traditional photo session with state-of-the-art digital equipment. Backgrounds are selected from a variety of photo seamless papers, or fabric drops. Studio props are available. We shoot however many exposures it takes to get a perfect moment, and all shots are viewed during the session on a video monitor. Normal retouching of “bad fur day” effects and drool are included.

Composite Photography:

Our specialty is combining one or more animals in a background of your choice, either from our ever-growing library or created from scratch with the owner’s and our collective imagination. The process is involved and time-consuming but can create an archival piece of art that will delight for generations. It is a process that is particularly suited to capture multiple animals, since only the perfect moment from each will be combined in the final work. Anyone who has ever tried to capture a shot of a pair of dogs will see the advantages in this approach.

Printing:

While our giclée printers which use archival pigmented ink have almost unlimited media options, we offer only three which, in our opinion, are the best: glossy canvas, archival watercolor, and true matte.

Canvas:

Our canvas is unique in that, unlike other canvases, has a surface that is both porous and flexible so that it can be “gallery wrapped” stretcher bars like a painting, without cracking the surface. The finished surface is coated with an acrylic laminate, making it resistant to atmospheric and UV damage. With our ultrachrome inks, it has an estimated longevity of 80 to 100 years. We are very proud of our canvas work and offer it unstretched, stretched on stretcher bars, gallery-wrapped, and gallery wrapped with a dramatic “floater” frame as used in many contemporary galleries. Prices for these are available on request.

True Matte:

A perfect choice for a high-resolution print with stunning color. For these, we use a different set of Epson inks featuring a true matte ink printed on either Epson enhanced matte or duo-brite double weight matte paper. This is especially good for dramatic black and white prints that rivaling the finest silver-based prints.

Fine Art Paper:

These prints have the highest rated longevity at over one-hundred years. The prints are made on Hahnemühle smooth or textured watercolor paper, and have a more subdued appearance, much like a watercolor painting.
